Our answer
On our planning profile the Goal Zero Yeti PRO 4000 runs a sump pump for about 50 hours, or 40 hours if you keep a reserve back.
The checks behind this answer
Stored energy is the final check, not the first. Voltage, continuous output, and startup demand must clear before runtime means anything. Missing published evidence stays marked unverified instead of being treated as a pass.
| Check | Result | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Voltage | Clears | A sump pump runs on 115V and the Goal Zero Yeti PRO 4000 supplies 120V AC. |
| Continuous output | Clears | A 630W running load sits inside the 3,600W continuous rating, leaving about 471% headroom. |
| Startup demand | Clears | The 1,800W start is covered by continuous output alone, so no surge rating is needed. |
How the number is built
A battery holds back some of its rated capacity, and converting to household AC costs more on top. Of the 3,993.6Wh rated here, roughly 3,163Wh reaches the outlet under a conservative planning model.
That energy meets an average load of 63W, which applies a 10% duty cycle to a 630W running draw. Holding back a 20% reserve for battery age, cold, and a longer outage leaves 40 hours. These are calculations, not measurements from a test.
Before you rely on this
These limits decide whether this appliance belongs on a portable battery at all.
- A portable power station is not a substitute for a permanently installed sump-pump battery backup system, and nothing here is a guarantee against flooding.
- Startup current is the usual failure point. A station with enough stored energy can still shut down on the first motor start.
- Do not improvise a portable station into house wiring. Plug the pump directly into the station.
Replace our assumptions with your own
The duty cycle is the whole question. Rainfall, water table, and pit size decide how often the pump runs, and a planning figure cannot know any of them for your basement.
Read the nameplate amps, then count actual pump cycles during a heavy rain event and time one cycle. That gives you a duty cycle grounded in your own basement.
